Roger’s Bicycle

Seen here with some Longhorn cows in Texas.

There will be some Racing Gold skewers to go with the build when they are ready. The hubs were a special order. Racing Gold hubs are always made to order, however these were particularly unusual. They do not have a carbon sleeve in them. They are all titanium.

Julia’s Bicycle

Julia’s Bicycle is made using Mavic CXP33 rims in 32 hole drilling. They were laced onto Royce track hubs using Sapim Laser spokes. The CXP33 rims are 650c in size meaning that they have a bead seat diameter of 571mm. This is smaller than the conventionally 700c rim which runs a bead seat diameter of 622mm. The smaller sized rim worked better with Julia’s height. However, as the CXP33 still runs a narrow internal, 650x23c Continental Grand Prix 4000s could be fitted.

Normally the low tension capacity of Mavic rims makes them a poor companion to Sapim Laser or CX-Ray spokes. Laser and CX-Ray spokes are high tension specific spokes. However, being a track wheelset the lack of dishing made the spoke tension within tolerance. The Royce hubs have been converted for running the Gates belt drive system.
